Founded in 2016 as part of the ECB’s initiative to elevate women’s domestic cricket, Western Storm quickly became a powerhouse in the Women’s Cricket Super League, winning titles in 2017 and 2019. Led by England captain Heather Knight and featuring international stars like Anya Shrubsole, Stafanie Taylor, and Smriti Mandhana, the team blended experience and talent. After the WCSL ended, Western Storm competed in England’s new domestic competitions until 2024, when the team was replaced by a professionalized Somerset side following structural reforms.
