Founded in 2019 following the announcement of The Hundred competition by the ECB, Southern Brave's men's team was coached by former Sri Lankan cricketer Mahela Jayawardene, while the women's team was led by former England captain Charlotte Edwards. In the inaugural 2021 season, the men's team clinched the title, defeating Birmingham Phoenix in the final, while the women's team finished as runners-up, losing to Oval Invincibles. The women's team secured their first title in 2023, defeating Northern Superchargers in the final. Notably, Southern Brave's men's team was the first to win the 100-ball format title.
