Quality

Expert Rating
Quality
Positives:
  • Japanese products are renowned for their exceptional build quality, and the Yamaha Fascino 125 Hybrid lives up to that reputation. From the premium paint finish to the precise panel fitting, every detail is flawless, and we encountered no issues with this retro-styled Yamaha scooter. While its design closely resembles the non-hybrid Fascino 125, Yamaha Motor India has introduced more vibrant paint choices (nine instead of seven) and added fresh graphics to the Fascino 125 Hybrid, giving it an even more striking appearance.
  • The Fascino 125 Hybrid media unit we tested featured the Cool Blue Metallic glossy paint, complemented by chrome accents around the headlight, apron, and side panels. However, some color variants come with blacked-out trims instead of chrome in these areas, giving the scooter a sportier look that is likely to attract younger riders.

Comfort

Expert Rating
Comfort
Positives:
  • The Yamaha Fascino 125 Hybrid offers a spacious ride, with plenty of room on both the saddle and footboard, ensuring rider comfort. However, the suspension setup leaves much to be desired. While its sporty tuning enhances handling, it results in a rather stiff ride that transmits almost every road bump to the rider. Though the seat padding provides some relief, overall comfort falls short of what typical buyers in this segment might expect.
  • On the positive side, the Fascino 125 feels stable and composed at highway speeds and when cornering, delivering sharp and confidence-inspiring handling. Its 99kg weight is well managed, and the scooter boasts a tight turning radius, making it easy to navigate through city traffic with minimal effort.
  • Practicality is addressed with a 21-litre under-seat storage compartment and a hook near the footboard. The storage is spacious enough for a backpack or an open-face helmet. However, the lack of an under-seat light makes finding items difficult in low-light conditions. Additionally, the internal fuel filler cap requires unlocking the seat every time you refuel, a feature that feels outdated compared to rivals like the TVS Jupiter 125.

Performance

Expert Rating
Performance
Positives:
  • The Hybrid variant of the Fascino 125 delivers the same power output as the standard model, with a slight improvement in torque. Its 125cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine produces 8.04bhp at 6,500rpm and 10.3Nm of torque at 5,000rpm, compared to 9.7Nm on the regular version.
  • The engine feels lively, and the Fascino 125 Hybrid accelerates briskly from a standstill, aided by the Smart Motor Generator which gives it a slight edge over the non-hybrid model. The acceleration is smooth and spirited up to around 85 km/h, after which the engine starts to lose momentum, with the top speed settling near 95 km/h. Vibrations are well controlled, with only a minor buzz felt on the footboard at higher speeds, leaving the overall ride comfortable.
  • On the braking front, the test scooter featured a front disc brake paired with a rear drum brake. The brakes deliver adequate stopping power with a progressive feel, although the initial bite is somewhat mild—still, this setup should be more than sufficient for most riders in this segment.

Technology

Expert Rating
Technology
Positives:
  • While the overall styling of the Fascino 125 Hybrid closely resembles the non-hybrid model, the Hybrid version adds several modern features that enhance its appeal. These include an LED headlight, a Bluetooth-enabled instrument cluster, an automatic start-stop system, a side-stand engine cut-off, and a Smart Motor Generator. The media vehicle we tested did not have the Bluetooth hardware installed, so we couldn’t evaluate its performance firsthand. For reference, the Bluetooth connectivity offers features like answer-back, vehicle locator (helpful in parking lots), riding history, GPS-based parking records, and a hazard light function. However, it lacks turn-by-turn navigation and notifications for incoming calls or messages.
  • The Smart Motor Generator serves two main functions in the Hybrid model. It enables a near-silent engine start when the starter button is pressed and also supports improved acceleration. Yamaha claims a 30% boost in acceleration compared to their 113cc model, though in reality, the difference between the hybrid and the non-hybrid Fascino 125 is noticeable but not dramatic.

Fuel Efficiency

Expert Rating
Fuel Efficiency
Positives:
  • In our test run, the Fascino 125 Hybrid delivered a fuel efficiency of 49 km/l. With its 5.2-litre fuel tank, this translates to a practical riding range of just over 250 km on a full tank before needing to refuel.

Our Take

Expert Rating
Our Take
Positives:
  • On its own, the Yamaha Fascino 125 Hybrid is an impressive scooter. It boasts a stylish design, offers more features than the non-hybrid model, and delivers an enjoyable ride. Especially on smooth roads. The Smart Motor Generator adds a nice performance boost, while the Bluetooth connectivity and LED headlight enhance its appeal, making it especially attractive to younger buyers. However, the lack of practical features like an external fuel filler cap, under-seat storage light, turn-by-turn navigation, and call/message notifications take away some convenience. Additionally, the stiff suspension could be a dealbreaker for many typical buyers in this segment, potentially steering them away from the Fascino 125 Hybrid.
