Thiruvallur Minor Rape Case Arrest in Sulurpet
Assam Youth Arrested in Sulurpet for Thiruvallur Minor Rape Case
In a horrifying incident that shook the Thiruvallur district, a young minor girl was abducted and raped near Gummidipoondi on July 12 after she returned home from school. The case quickly gained statewide attention, prompting immediate action from law enforcement agencies. Over 500 police officers were deployed under the supervision of SP Vivekananda Shukla, supported by 17 core and 3 special teams. Police reviewed over 75 CCTV camera footages to identify the culprit.
Breakthrough information came when a suspect was spotted at the Sulurpet railway station in Andhra Pradesh wearing the same T-shirt as the one seen in the footage on the day of the crime. A team led by Chengalpattu DSP Pugazhendi immediately apprehended the suspect at platform 3. The accused, identified as Raju from Assam, had recently been working at a Haryana-style dhaba in Kupparedtipalayam.
The arrest was officially confirmed by Northern Zone IG Asra Garg, who along with DSP Jayashree, led a detailed interrogation. During questioning, it was revealed that the accused often travelled via train on weekends. Notably, the suspect matched identifying marks, including missing front teeth and tattoos on his arms, corroborated by the minor girl victim.
Authorities report that Raju confessed to the crime during the interrogation. He had reportedly been in Sulurpet for just 15 days before committing the heinous act. The arrest has raised questions about interstate movement of criminal suspects and the need for tighter checks at transport hubs.
Meanwhile, the victim's parents have expressed strong dissatisfaction with the authorities for not allowing them to see the suspect personally. They are demanding the death penalty for the accused, underlining the need for justice and the safety of children in society.
This shocking Thiruvallur rape case highlights the critical importance of technology like CCTV in solving crimes and the dedication of Tamil Nadu police in ensuring swift justice for crimes against children.
