The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast very heavy rains in these areas, prompting the closure of all major tourist attractions in Ooty and nearby hill stations. Tourists are advised to postpone their travel plans due to the inclement weather conditions and landslide risks.

The IMD has confirmed that the downpour is likely to intensify today, especially in the Nilgiris and the hilly parts of Coimbatore district. Tomorrow, the region is expected to receive even more rainfall, with a potential for flash floods and disruptions in road and rail transport. This has led the authorities to restrict public movement in vulnerable locations and shut down access to popular scenic spots.

According to the latest weather bulletin, a low-pressure system is expected to develop in the central and western Bay of Bengal by tomorrow. This system is projected to bring widespread rainfall to various parts of Tamil Nadu over the next week, including the districts of Nellai, Theni, Tenkasi, Kanyakumari, Tiruppur, and Dindigul.

Fishermen have been strictly warned not to venture into the sea, especially near the coastal regions of South Tamil Nadu, the Gulf of Mannar, and the Kumarikadal area, as wind speeds may reach up to 55 kmph. The IMD has advised local administrations to remain on high alert and take all precautionary measures to prevent any loss of life or property.
