T P Rajalakshmi was a pioneering Indian actress singer and filmmaker in the Tamil film industry. She is recognized as the first female lead singer and producer in Tamil cinema. Born in Tirunelveli Tamil Nadu she began her career in stage drama before entering films. Her debut and first production was Miss Kamala in 1936 which marked her as the first woman to produce a Tamil film. She acted in notable films like Nandakumar Sathi Leelavathi and Markandeya and was known for portraying strong female roles that promoted social change.
