Poornima Jayaram is a renowned Indian actress known for her work in Malayalam Tamil Hindi and Telugu cinema during the late 1970s and 1980s. She began her acting career with supporting roles in Hindi films such as Paheli and Dillagi. Her breakthrough came with the Malayalam film Manjil Virinja Pookkal which marked the beginning of her successful pairing with actor Shankar in Malayalam cinema. She gained further recognition with films like Olangal and Payanangal Mudivathillai. In 1984 Poornima married actor director K Bhagyaraj who directed her in the Tamil film Darling Darling Darling. The couple has two children Saranya Bhagyaraj and Shanthanu Bhagyaraj both of whom are actors in Tamil cinema. After a hiatus Poornima made a comeback in the 2010s appearing in supporting roles in films like Jilla and Raatchasi as well as in television serials such as Kanmani and Enga Veetu Meenakshi.
