Nissan Gravite: Sub-4 Meter MPV Officially Named
Nissan has officially confirmed the name of its upcoming sub-4 metre MPV for the Indian market as the Nissan Gravite. The announcement marks a key step in Nissan's renewed product strategy aimed at strengthening its position in India's highly competitive passenger vehicle segment. The Nissan Gravite is scheduled for its official debut in January 2026, with dealership availability expected by March 2026, positioning it as a major launch for the brand next year.
By entering the sub-4 metre MPV space, Nissan aims to cater to Indian families seeking a compact yet spacious people mover that combines practicality, modern styling, and affordability. The Gravite is expected to play a crucial role in increasing Nissan's volumes and brand visibility across urban and semi-urban markets.
Nissan's India Product Strategy
The Nissan Gravite is part of a broader product offensive planned by the Japanese automaker for India. Along with this sub-4 metre MPV, Nissan is preparing to launch two additional models, including the Tekton compact SUV and a new 7-seater SUV. These upcoming vehicles are aimed at covering key high-demand segments in the Indian market.
While Nissan has already offered a glimpse of the Tekton compact SUV earlier, the company has now shifted focus to the Gravite by revealing its exterior styling ahead of launch. This early design reveal indicates Nissan's intent to generate interest well in advance and establish the Gravite as a distinct offering within its lineup.
Platform and Market Positioning
The Nissan Gravite is built on the Renault Triber platform, a proven architecture already in use in the Indian market. Despite sharing its underpinnings with the Triber, Nissan has introduced several design-specific changes to ensure the Gravite maintains a unique identity aligned with the brand's design language.
Positioned as a compact and affordable MPV under four metres in length, the Gravite is aimed at buyers looking for a practical 7-seater vehicle that fits within tax-efficient dimensions. Its positioning targets family-oriented customers who require flexibility, seating capacity, and everyday usability without moving into larger and more expensive MPVs.
Exterior Design Overview
At the front, the Nissan Gravite features a bold honeycomb-pattern grille with the Nissan logo positioned prominently at the center. One of the key highlights is the ‘GRAVITE' badge placed on the bonnet, reinforcing the model's identity and mirroring the design approach seen on the Nissan Tekton.
Slim LED daytime running lights connected by a light bar give the MPV a contemporary and upmarket appearance. The flat bonnet, combined with sharp character lines and contrasting C-shaped silver accents on the bumper, lends the Gravite a more rugged, SUV-inspired stance despite its MPV proportions.
Side Profile
Nissan has not revealed the full side profile of the Gravite yet, but visible design elements hint at a practical and well-balanced silhouette. The MPV is seen with lift-type door handles, which add a clean look, along with roof rails that enhance its utility-oriented appeal.
Dual-tone alloy wheels further contribute to the Gravite's premium positioning, suggesting that Nissan intends to offer a more stylish alternative within the compact MPV space while maintaining functional design priorities.
Rear Styling
The rear design of the Nissan Gravite is clean and understated. The taillamps are not directly connected but are visually linked through a thin chrome strip that runs across the tailgate and meets the Nissan badge at the center.
The ‘GRAVITE' lettering is positioned neatly on the lower section of the liftgate, while the bumper design remains simple, featuring contrasting C-shaped accents similar to those seen at the front, ensuring design consistency.
Interior and Features (Expected)
Nissan has not yet revealed detailed images of the Gravite's interior, but the cabin is expected to differ from the Renault Triber to give the MPV a distinct Nissan character. The focus is likely to be on practicality combined with modern technology features.
Expected features include an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, push-button start, manual climate control with rear air-conditioning vents, keyless entry, wireless phone charging, and a six-speaker audio system.
Safety Equipment
Safety is expected to be a strong focus for the Nissan Gravite. The MPV is likely to offer six airbags as standard across variants, along with electronic stability control and hill start assist to enhance driving confidence.
Additional safety features are expected to include a tyre pressure monitoring system, front and rear parking sensors, and a rear-view camera, aligning the Gravite with current safety expectations in the segment.
Engine and Transmission
The Nissan Gravite is expected to use the same powertrain as the Renault Triber. This includes a 1-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 72 PS of power and 96 Nm of torque.
Transmission options are expected to include a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 5-speed AMT. While there is interest in a turbo-petrol option, Nissan has not officially confirmed any additional engine choices at this stage.
