The "Miracle of the Sun," also known as the "Miracle of Fátima," refers to a series of events reported on October 13, 1917, in Fátima, Portugal. On this day, a large crowd gathered in response to a prophecy by three shepherd children—Lúcia Santos and her cousins, Francisco and Jacinta Marto—who claimed that the Virgin Mary would appear and perform a miracle. Witnesses reported extraordinary solar phenomena, such as the Sun appearing to "dance" or zigzag in the sky, emit multicolored light, and move towards the Earth. These events reportedly lasted about ten minutes.
The Catholic Church conducted a canonical investigation into the event, reviewing witness accounts and assessing the compatibility of the alleged revelations with Catholic theology. On October 13, 1930, Bishop José da Silva declared the miracle "worthy of belief," permitting the official veneration of Our Lady of Fátima within the Church.
