Pahalgam Terror Attack: India Bans Trade with Pakistan | LIVE Updates

Pahalgam Terror Attack(03-05-2025): India Responds with Strong Measures Against Pakistan

In a decisive response to the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 innocent tourists, the Indian government has taken multiple strong diplomatic and economic measures against Pakistan. Tensions between the two countries have escalated, with New Delhi making its position clear—terrorism will not be tolerated.

India Imposes Blanket Ban on Imports from Pakistan

In a significant move, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry issued a Gazette notification announcing a complete ban on the import and transit of goods originating from or exported by Pakistan. The ban applies irrespective of the items' import status and comes into effect immediately.

“Direct or indirect import or transit of all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan… shall be prohibited with immediate effect, until further orders. This restriction is imposed in the interest of national security and public policy,” the notification read.

Additional Diplomatic Actions Taken

Alongside the trade ban, the Indian government has taken several other impactful steps:

  • Closure of the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari.
  • Suspension of the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) for Pakistani nationals, who now have 40 hours to exit India.
  • Reduction of diplomatic staff in both countries' high commissions.
  • Halting cooperation under the Indus Waters Treaty signed in 1960.

Pakistan Claims Missile Test Success

Meanwhile, Pakistan announced a successful training launch of a surface-to-surface missile with a 450-kilometer range—an apparent show of strength amid rising tensions. However, India's strategic community sees this as an attempt to divert attention from the terror incident.

PM Modi Vows Justice

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation, expressing deep condolences to the victims’ families. He firmly declared that the perpetrators and conspirators of the Pahalgam attack will face “punishment beyond their imagination.” He emphasized that the time has come to eliminate every remaining terror stronghold and that the collective willpower of 140 crore Indians will prevail.
