Madhav Laxman Apte was an Indian cricketer remembered for his elegant batting technique and contributions to India's early Test cricket era. Born on October 5, 1932, in Bombay (now Mumbai), Apte represented India as a right-handed opening batsman during the 1950s. Although his international career lasted only a few years, his performances left a strong impression and he remained respected in Indian cricket circles for decades.
Apte belonged to a cricket-loving family in Mumbai and developed his skills at a young age. His patience at the crease, disciplined batting approach, and strong defensive technique made him an ideal opening batsman. Madhav Apte played domestic cricket for the Bombay cricket team, which was historically one of the most dominant teams in the Ranji Trophy. During his domestic career, he scored several important centuries and played key roles in strengthening Bombay's batting lineup.

International Test Career
Apte made his Test debut for India in 1952–53 during the tour of the West Indies. Playing against one of the strongest cricket teams of that era, he demonstrated impressive composure and skill. In the five Test matches he played for India, Apte scored over 500 runs at an impressive average above 49, including a memorable innings of 163 runs against the West Indies.

Madhav Apte's batting technique was built on patience and precision. As an opening batsman, he focused on protecting his wicket and gradually building the innings. His ability to read bowlers and adapt to different conditions made him a dependable player during challenging overseas tours.
