Jharkhand Clinch Their Maiden Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Title
Jharkhand entered the record books by becoming the 12th team to lift the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, securing their first-ever title in the premier domestic T20 competition. The triumph marked a historic moment for the state, as it was their maiden appearance in a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final. Prior to this achievement, Jharkhand had only one senior domestic title to their name, the Vijay Hazare Trophy from the 2010-11 season, making this T20 success a major milestone in their cricketing journey.
With this victory, Jharkhand joined an elite list of champions in the tournament's history. Baroda, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Mumbai have each won the title twice, while Tamil Nadu stand as the most successful side with three championships. Jharkhand's emergence as a new champion added a fresh chapter to the competition's legacy and highlighted their steady rise in India's domestic T20 circuit.
Record-Breaking Final Total by Jharkhand
Jharkhand delivered a historic batting performance in the 2025-26 final by posting a massive 262 for 3 against Haryana. This total stands as the highest score ever recorded in a T20 final across all competitions. The effort eclipsed the previous benchmark of 244 for 4 set by Italy against Romania in 2024, underlining the extraordinary nature of Jharkhand's innings on the biggest stage.
The score also ranked as the second-highest total ever achieved in any T20 playoff or elimination match. Only Somerset's 265 for 5 against Derbyshire in the quarter-final of the 2022 T20 Blast sits above it, further emphasizing how Jharkhand's batting display redefined expectations in high-pressure knockout encounters.
Jharkhand's Best-Ever T20 Batting Performance
The 262 for 3 against Haryana was not only historic in the context of the final but also marked Jharkhand's highest total in T20 cricket. Throughout the tournament, Jharkhand crossed the 200-run mark on five occasions, the second-most by any team in a single edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Before this season, Jharkhand had managed only three 200-plus totals across all their previous campaigns combined. One of their five 200-plus scores during the title-winning run also became the highest successful chase in the tournament's history, reflecting a season defined by aggressive batting and consistent run-scoring.
Ishan Kishan's Historic Century in the Final
Ishan Kishan delivered one of the most memorable performances in the history of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy by scoring a century in the final. He became only the second batter to achieve this feat, following Anmolpreet Singh's 113 for Punjab in the 2023-24 final. Kishan's hundred came off just 45 balls, ranking as the third-fastest century ever recorded in a men's T20 final.
The knock provided Jharkhand with decisive momentum and set the tone for a record-breaking total. Kishan's ability to dominate bowling attacks on the biggest stage once again highlighted his impact as a high-pressure performer in domestic T20 cricket.
Kishan's Dominance as a Wicketkeeper-Batter
With five centuries in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Ishan Kishan now holds the joint record for the most hundreds in the tournament, alongside Abhishek Sharma. Remarkably, all five of Kishan's centuries were scored while he was keeping wickets, placing him among the most impactful wicketkeeper-batters in T20 history.
Only Quinton de Kock has more T20 centuries as a wicketkeeper. Kishan also captained Jharkhand in four of these five century innings, giving him the most hundreds by any wicketkeeper-captain in T20 cricket.
Highest Combined Runs in a T20 Knockout Match
The final between Jharkhand and Haryana produced a combined total of 455 runs, the highest ever recorded in a T20 playoff or elimination match. The previous record stood at 445 runs, achieved during a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy quarter-final between Mumbai and Vidarbha.
The contest also set a new benchmark for six-hitting in a knockout match, with a total of 33 maximums struck. Jharkhand contributed 20 sixes, while Haryana added 13, underlining the explosive batting display witnessed in the final.
Kishan Among Top Run-Getters of the Tournament
Ishan Kishan concluded the tournament with 517 runs, making it the third-highest aggregate by any batter in a single edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. His tally was only behind Devdutt Padikkal's 580 runs in 2019-20 and Rohan Kadam's 536 runs in 2018-19.
The century in the final was Kishan's second of the tournament, with his first coming against Tripura. He had also registered two centuries in the 2018-19 season, placing him among the select batters with multiple hundreds in different editions.
Sushant Mishra's Wicket-Taking Feat
Sushant Mishra emerged as Jharkhand's leading wicket-taker, finishing the tournament with 22 wickets. This haul is the joint-highest by a bowler in a single edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, matching the tally achieved by Rajasthan's Ashok Sharma.
Haryana's Anshul Kamboj followed closely with 21 wickets, a figure that also matches the tally recorded by Lukman Meriwala during the 2013-14 season.
Anukul Roy's Outstanding All-Round Performance
Anukul Roy produced one of the finest all-round displays of the tournament, finishing with 303 runs and 18 wickets. Only Harshal Patel had previously achieved the milestone of scoring over 300 runs and taking at least 15 wickets in a single edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
In addition to his runs and wickets, Anukul also took nine catches across eleven matches. This placed him among a rare group of players who have combined 300-plus runs, 15-plus wickets, and nine catches in a single T20 tournament.
Consistency Across Matches for Anukul Roy
Anukul Roy showcased remarkable consistency throughout the tournament, scoring 25 or more runs in seven matches while also taking multiple wickets in seven games. Only two other players have managed to achieve this dual feat in a T20 tournament.
Tournament Records for Batting Firepower
The 2025-26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy set new benchmarks for batting dominance, with 20 centuries recorded across the tournament. This is the highest number of hundreds in any T20 competition, surpassing the previous record of 17 centuries from the 2017 T20 Blast.
A total of 1,884 sixes were struck during the season, making it the most six-laden T20 tournament on record. This figure exceeded the previous best of 1,855 sixes achieved in the 2024-25 season.
Fastest-Scoring Season in Tournament History
The 2025-26 edition also became the fastest-scoring season in the history of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The tournament recorded an overall run rate of 8.59, marginally higher than the 8.57 achieved in the previous 2024-25 season, highlighting the continued rise in scoring rates across domestic T20 cricket.
