Ponniyin Selvan: Part Two just keeps the epic story of the Chola dynasty going, now picking up the pieces after that assassination plot against Prince Arunmozhi Varman really shook things up. The kingdom is falling apart and as the dust settles more & more hidden truths, royal backstabbing & secrets long kept under wraps start to see the light of day. Arunmozhi Varman's fate in Sri Lanka, and then there's Kundavai desperate to keep the empire intact, Aditha Karikalan heading back to Tanjore, and Nandini's really weird mysterious past all start to come together in a pretty dramatic way. Loyalties are being tested and it looks like some old enemies are going to turn up from right within the royal family, it's all building up to a really legendary transformation of Arunmozhi Varman into Rajaraja Chola I - a name that sounds familiar even today, for fans of Indian history. The film is a real rollercoaster ride of emotions, battles, romance and palace politics but ultimately it's also a really satisfying conclusion to Kalki's classic novel - bringing everything to a pretty powerful close.
