Storyline

Freedom is a Tamil historical drama directed by Sathyasiva, starring M. Sasikumar and Lijomol Jose, which tells the gripping story of Sri Lankan Tamil refugees who flee the civil war in search of safety in India, only to be wrongfully imprisoned in Vellore Fort under suspicion of involvement in the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi. The film follows the lives of the inmates as they endure injustice, fear, and despair while clinging to hope, forming bonds, and quietly planning their escape. In 1995, 43 prisoners, led by Maaran (Sasikumar), execute a daring breakout, tunneling through walls and evading guards in a tense, courageous effort for freedom. Blending suspense, emotion, and historical context, Freedom portrays the resilience of the human spirit, the longing for dignity, and the unyielding pursuit of liberty against overwhelming odds.
