Saranya Ponvannan is a renowned Indian actress in the Tamil and South Indian film industry, celebrated for her versatile performances, especially in supporting and maternal roles. She made her acting debut as a lead in Mani Ratnam?s Nayakan (1987) and later appeared in Malayalam, Telugu, and Kannada films. After a brief hiatus, she returned as a character actress, gaining critical acclaim for her roles in Raam (2005), Thavamai Thavamirundhu (2005), Em Magan (2006), and Thenmerku Paruvakaatru (2010), for which she won the National Film Award for Best Actress. Born in Alappuzha, Kerala, to Malayalam filmmaker A. B.
