Nandamuri Balakrishna was born on 10 June 1960 in Madras, Madras State, India, and he is the son of actor and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N. T. Rama Rao. Tatamma Kala, a film directed by N. T. Rama Rao, is the first movie for Balakrishna, which he acted in at the age of 14 in 1974. Balakrishna has acted in more than 100 films; Akhanda, Gautamiputra Satakarni, and Legend are the highest box office grossing movies. Balakrishna has received three state Nandi Awards for Best Actor, and in 2025, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Vibhushan. In the Hindupur Assembly constituency in Andhra Pradesh, he won the election held in 2014. In 2019 and 2024, he was re-elected as MLA for the Hindupur Assembly constituency in Andhra Pradesh. In 1982, at the age of 22, Balakrishna married Vasundhara Devi, and they have three children.
