Gopishantha (Manorama) was born in Mannargudi, Tamil Nadu, India. Manorama acted in more than 1,500 films. She mainly worked in Tamil and also in Kannada, Telugu, and Malayalam. In 2002, the Government of India honored her with the Padma Shri, and she won more than 100 awards, including the National Film Award, Kalaimamani Award, Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, and Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award – South. Aachi Manorama started her career as a stage artist in Vairam Nataka Sabha dramas and made her debut in the film "Malayitta Mangai" (1958), directed by G. Viswanathan. Aachi Manorama was officially recognized by the Guinness World Records in 1985 for acting in over 1,000 films. Aachi Manorama is widely known for having acted with almost all leading actors in Tamil cinema across generations. She died in Chennai on 10 October 2015 as a result of multiple organ failure at the age of 78.
