Kalpana was an Indian actress who primarily worked in the Malayalam film industry also appearing in Tamil and Telugu films. She was born on October 13 1965 in Kerala India into a family deeply rooted in the arts. Her sisters Kalaranjini and Urvashi were also leading actresses. Kalpana started acting as a child artist and made her debut as a lead actress with the Malayalam film Pokkuveyil in 1982 directed by G Aravindan. Her career flourished through the 1980s and 1990s with performances in films such as Chithram Dr Pasupathy Sandesham Peruvannapurathe Visheshangal and Vandanam. Known for her lively screen presence she became one of the most sought after comedy and supporting actresses in Malayalam cinema. Kalpana also worked in Tamil movies including Sakthivel and Kadhal Solla Vandhen and was recognized nationally for her role in Thanichalla Njan which won her the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2013. Despite facing personal struggles she remained dedicated to acting and continued to contribute to cinema until her passing. Her last film Charlie released in 2015 became a critical and commercial success.
